Globigerina limestone
2018
​
All exposed rock in Malta was deposited during the Oligocene and Miocene. The megalithic temple of Ħaġar Qim is one of the oldest freestanding religious structures in existence. Its builders used Globigerina Limestone in its construction. For a long time Globigerina Limestone was the only building material available. Today, it is still used in the construction of all types of buildings and sculptures in Malta. I press my ear to them and I hear their voices; I lay my hand on them and they remember.
